Hello! Great player! Overall very fast response to the equalizations! May I suggest you to add a mark to help the user to find the neutral position in the pitch and speed controllers? If I move them I have to find back the right position by ear, it's not so perfect! Thank you!

There is already. Simply doubleclick the slider you want and it will go to the neutral position

Simply great! Thank you! There would be another little problem: the playlist window, reporting all the path of the file, often isn't enough wide to see the file name. Couldn't you add a horizontal bar like the vertical one? Anyway it's fantastic, it plays everything (I had some .ace and .mpc I couldn't listen too before)! And very well!

I'm afraid that adding a horizontal bar would not solve the problem because if a file path is 20 characters long and another file path is 150, then even if a horizontal bar existed you would have the same problem. So the only solution is to use a wider playlist window, which can be done and now. ;D

Found your player yesterday and only got around to installing it today. Results were disappointing to say the least: only hash-static that drowns out the music, which is played at a speed that is wrong, and cannot be corrected. (It varies, but never gets to a normal rate.) Tried all adjustments provided: no joy. Looked over the .ini file but could see no relevant settings that might influence the problem.
I am a technician, so you can be sure that no installation is ocmplete until after the application is configured before use. Running Win98, DX9c, AMD 350, 150MB memory, Ensoniq 1370 soundcard. All my other audio playback apps work just fine, including Winamp, foobar, Apollo, Windows Media Player (6.4, of course!, but with 7.1 installed), so I'm somewhat at a loss to understand why your app is malfunctioning as it is.
Sorry to report such bad news, but I was really looking fwd to testing your app, so I am disappointed as well. Any suggestions?

If i understood correctly the result of the playback ends to an output that has different rate or the sound goes to fast or too slow. In that case go to the pitch slider and double click on it. It will reset it's value to the middle value which is the default value. Do the same to both of the tempo sliders. Generally if you double click on a slider, this will reset it's value to it's default value. If this doesn't help, then unistall Passion Audio Player and the install it again. I must say that it's the first time that someone reports something like this.

The rate problem is only part of it altogether. The other part is an overpowering distortion that resembles hash and static mixed together, which in turn is mixed with the signal. The resultant of these two (rate plus hash/static) is most distressing.
I have done some digging on the libraries that you used to implement your player, and have found that their author has released a newer version. I tried copying the newer bass.dll to the player install directory, with the result that the player would not function at all.
Later, I experimented with some of the test apps that the library author included with his package (again, with the newer version) and playback was normal. That is as far with t'shooting as I have gotten thusfar.
I am as puzzled as you are by these symptoms, as I test a lot of software, and have never run across exactly this combination with any sound application. Clearly it has to do with your package, since it doesn't affect any other related one, but I am at a loss as to how to procede.

This is normal because each version of BASS.dll has some different API functions and so you can't simply update the dll and to upgrade the Player. The only thing that i can imagine is that maybe there is a conflict of your soundcard's drivers and BASS v2.1, since it works on BASS v2.2. Try this test application and tell me the results: www.angelfire.com/zine2/georgebou/downloads/basstestv21.zipIn any case if the problem is with the BASS version, i have in plans to release a new version of Passion Audio Player until the end of the year which problably will fix some things since it uses the new version of BASS v2.2

Okay cool, Mr B. I'll keep an eye out and try the new version then. Meantime, if there is anything I can do to collect data for t'shooting or what have you, please post here and I'll be happy to comply. Its unusual for a developer to be so positively responsive, and it seems your app has merit, so I'll keep in touch.
p.s., as far as being able to compare the two versions of BASS libraries with the developer's test apps, that was not possible since 2.1 was no longer available on his site--presuming of course taht the older version came with the same suite of demo apps as well.
Another thing, possibly related: Apollo *seems* to use "a" bass module as well, (its in the install directory anyway), and it works just fine. Too bad the BASS developer does not mark his libs with version information (or, any at all) for the sake of comparison though. <boo, hiss>

The only thing that could help is if you get any error messages. If not, then i think we will both have to wait for the next version too see whats going on. ;D

Results of the t'shooting app you posted:
sample box: 1) 48kHz 16-bit stereo wave error code 5 2) 44kHz 16-bit mono wave error code 5
stream box: 1) same as 1) above error code 9 2) same as 2) above error code 9 3) 320kHz 48kHz 16-bit stereo MP3 error code 9
music box: didn't have any midi or mod files to test with
hope this helps
p.s., I changed the guest name becasue I registered under hornet777, which has yet to be approved.

Since the test application gives you errors too, then the problem concerns the bass.dll and probably the latest solves this issues. About the error message 5 you get, probably this happens because bass can't for a reason load the file(usally happens for a file format that is not supported).
Anyway thanks for posting and i'll see what can be done.

Hey, Mr B. Just saw you released a new version only today. Installed, and its doing the same thing.
You know, I think its on my end, *sort of*.
By this I mean that all my mp3s I've encoded myself using Lame, and I've done this using 320k bandwidth, and *48k* sampling rate, rather than the more usual 44,1. This is possibly why the bass*.dll library package is having such a time. This hadn't occurred to me until just now.
