Hi. First of all i would like to wish you a happy new year. Could you please send me an e-mail with an attachment with one of the mp3 files that cause you the problem? If the file is too big, do an encoding of a file for 10 to 15 seconds and it will produce a smaller file. In this way i will see if my program has a bug that i haven't noticed so far, or else i will post it to the BASS author to do some tests with BASS and this file., so that we can have a clue. Send it to the e-mail below georgebou@gmail.com p.s. About the approval of the account, it's the first time that i'm handling a forum and i didn't know that i had to approve accounts, until yesteday. So now i think the problem has been solved and your account has been approved Besides in the future all accounts will be approved automatically.

Since yesterday, I had an opportunity to downsample a 48kHz WAV file to 44,1kHz and play it, and the results were the same, so its not what I said above, but I'm totally vexed as to how to troubleshoot it further. So, yes I am equipped to not only send an excerpt, but I'll even attempt to make a file of the way it sounds played through Passion (I have a loop-back cable). I'll try to keep the duration brief to keep the file sizes small, and I've copied your address locally. Give me a week or so to get it done.

Ok, but basically i need the original file so that i can play it on my system with a debugging version of Passion Audio Player to see what's the problem. I need this because if there is a driver conflict on your system with Passion Audio Player, the it will play at my system correctly and not at yours. If Passion is the problem then probably i'll find it with a debugging version.
About the week, take your time.

A bit more info: I found VUplayer yesterday, and coincidentally it uses the BASS libs as well. Guess what? It works just fine. One more piece in the puzzle (hopefully). Samples upcoming--I'll get started on it tonight.

I got the files you sent and the original works fine on my system and the other gives me a picture of what's going on. The reason that Passion Audio Player gives you the sound result of the file 00-B52s-Topaz-excerpt-playback.mp3 is the following: Passion Audio Player at the last few versions uses floating point channels, which give a better sound result when the sound is going through various effects like Equalizer, tempo controls e.t.c. To be able to use floating-point channels in Windows, the output device needs to have WDM drivers installed. For reference... Windows XP/2000 use only WDM drivers. Windows Me/98SE can use either WDM or the older VxD driver model. Windows 98/95 do not use WDM drivers. Since your are running Windows 98 on the system you are having the problems, the only solution is to use on it Windows 98SE or later, since you can't use WDM Drivers on Windows 98. This is the only solution because all the code of Passion Audio Player is now based on floating point channels and i can't change it, because the code will be more complex with sound loss result and besides i don't have a system with Windows 98 to do regular tests for every version i'll release. I hope i didn't dissapoint you, but i can't do so many code changes because the profit is not big considering that most systems tend to use Windows 98SE, Me, Xp etc. Thanks for spending your precious time to improve Passion Audio Player

Ahhhh, I see! Well, I am using 98SE, but standardised WDM drivers aren't available for my ancient Ensoniq 1370 sound card, so you guessed it, VxD drivers are used. That said, from Creative, there IS a generic WDM driver available that will not install of its own accord. It is however an executable zip file, within which is an INF file that *might* allow this WDM driver to be installed. I've already asked both Creative and the good folks at the Audio Masters forum about the feasibility of doing this, and no one could answer definitively. So, its up to me to try an experiment. I do have a fresh copy of 98SE on another hard drive, sans audio drivers, which I intend (someday) to try this (yes I have the technical ability to do this and clean up afterward if it fails). The bottom line then is that Passion may someday be able to work, provided the generic WDM drivers available from Creative install and work correctly on a clean 98SE system. The only other alternative is to get a better sound card . Guess this closes this thread. Great meeting you, Mr B. and best wishes!!
